The Neighborhood
WHAM! enjoys an informal local network of artists and culture workers and aims to collaborate with Woodside groups including Bayanihan Arts, Bula Arts and Culture, Epicenternyc.org, Mondo & Heptagon Studios, Studio Artego, Topaz Arts, Inc. Vital Art Studios, Woodside Arts Collective, and others.
Huge thanks to the extraordinary City Reliquary Museum and Civic Organization, Williamsburg, Brooklyn which inspired WHAM! and kindly encouraged replicating their exquisite model.
Food & Drink within a 4 block radius of WHAM!
(In order most frequented by us)
Solid State
53-22 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://solidstatenyc.com/
Technically this is our local Bar with NO food, but you can bring your own food and play board games or pinball. They have 20 rotating NYS craft beers and drinks. This welcoming place basically helped us survive Covid. Give them some Love!
La Flor
53-02 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://laflorinwoodside.com/
Our go to place when we can't decide on what to eat for dinner, or a place to bring out of town relatives. Everything is delicious here, family friendly, and we'd know as we've eaten everything on the menu over the past 17 years. Our dear friend Viko Ortega passed away early this year but his legacy continues here!
El Don Taqueria (tied with la Flor)
53-24 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://eldontaqueria.com/
The most delicious and affordable tacos and tortas in the neighborhood. They also have a great Philly Cheese Steak and daily specials. Micki’s go to is a veggie burrito with chorizo added. Excellent takeout for Solid State as they are next door to one another. Same owners as California Deli across the street which sells reasonably priced 6-packs, all kinds of Mexican candies and snacks, and some fresh fruits and vegetables.
52nd Street Sushi
5221 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing, NY 11377 https://www.allmenus.com
(now updated and renamed Bro-sushi) A little Korean sushi place with your usual standard/non Japanese Rolls like Philadelphia roll and the 52nd Street roll . The rice dishes are affordable and satisfying and large sushi/sashimi/roll platters are very affordable and great for parties. Great takeout for Solid State.
Weekender
41-46 54th St, Woodside, NY 11377. https://www.theweekender.store/home-alt
The first Bhutanese restaurant in New York City. If you like spicy, this is the place for you - and when the King of Bhutan was in town, Weekender catered the special event! Literally next door to WHAM! Great takeout for Solid State. Try Bhutanese newcomer Zhego on 61st Street too!
KhanTong Thai (their name seems to change every few years but the food stays the same)
57-17 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377
Good decent Thai where you can get the basics in the area like Pad Thai. We order their chicken garlic noodle soups when we are sick. Good takeout to bring to Solid State. Also visit Three Aunties’ two nearby Thai food shops.
Cafe 52
5129 43rd Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://www.cafe52newyork.com/
A little bit of everything .Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. We love their daily special soups!
El Kambuche de Lola
54-06 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377
Colombian coffee shop. Good empanadas and excellent Juan Valdez coffee at low prices.
Nature's Vita
53-05 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://naturesvida53.square.site/
A deli with your usual bacon/egg/cheese on a roll but they make fantastic personal pizzas with unique and delicious toppings.
Dawa
51-18 Skillman Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 http://www.dawasnyc.com/
They identify their cuisine as nomadic Himalayan and New American- you can mix and match with Momos and Shabaley alongside basics like a burger or a chicken sandwich. Everything is delicious and better to eat it there with one of their fun cocktails.
Donovan's
57-24 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://donovansny.com/
One of the few remaining Irish Bar/Restaurants in our area, great burgers and a few pints. Don’t miss the signed Salvador Dali silkscreens in their Library.
La Adelita
5321 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://www.laadelitadewoodside.com/
Another Mexican restaurant but more of a sit down kinda place. There's a lady that sits outside from early mornings with hot tamales and drinks- perfect breakfast for a teen who oversleeps.
Mi Tierras Colombianas
54-08 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 http://www.mistierrascolombianaswoodside.com/
classic Colombian fare and great cocktails!
Broski Grill
5326 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377
This is a fairly new addition to the neighborhood. We haven't really gone there yet but the grilled food smells good and people are nice in there.
Los Cuencanitos
54-18 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377
Ecuadorian/Latin American fare and standard pizzas too.
TJ Asian
50-19 Skillman Ave, Woodside, NY 11377 https://www.ezordernow.com/tjasianbistrony
Another non-Japanese Sushi place with decent fish. Bigger sitdown restaurant than 52nd St. Sushi.
